Day 1 at Fuge Camp! God is speaking to me and doing amazing things with our students. The students are looking at 1 Samuel 17, the story of David & Goliath. The purpose of this week is to look at life, two paths, one choice. What does it mean to be courageous and to follow God? What does it look like to be courageous leader in the church?
I couldn’t help but ask myself what we are teaching our kids. We allow our churches and our youth groups to be segmented, we do drink with people like us, often we are committed to doing church with people we like. What does it look like to really be the church? Can we allow our kids to separate themselves from kids who aren’t like them?
Are we teaching our students to love other people, to invest in others? Wrong question, what specifically are we doing to teach our kids to live as they should with people who don’t & with people who are not like them? Teaching students to be One body is always challenging, it is even harder when we allow our kids to separate themselves or to draw lines between groups. The church is One body, One people with One mission and One God, our kids will always separate themselves when we allow it, it is human nature, we have to teach unity and cooperation. We as leaders in the church have to teach our kids how to walk with others, even doing life around people who aren’t “good” like our kids maybe.

This type of unity requires courage and commitment.

One response to “Courage to Be One”

  1. WOW! It is so hard sometimes wanting to be someone that kids without anyone can turn to for help and advice, opening the door for sharing God and really making a difference in their lives, and yet you find yourself being hypocritical by telling your daughter (who isnt afraid to share God and her faith) to stay away from so-and-so or don’t hang out with them.
Developing her in to one who is so strong in her faith that she is the light some of these kids need, yet keeping her saFe and sheltered from the ugliness of the world she has yet to see… She can’t save everyone, and she is human and susceptible to influences of the world. We have found that for the most part, the rumors have been the most damaging part of it all, and become the reasons to back away from those people who “might” drag us down. ..but might not….you being the catalyst for life change and spiritual awakening! The back and forth is difficult!
Thank you for this blog…triggered some deep soul-searching, “God just tell me what you want me to do” moments. #hehasbeen #Godsplan #openyoureyes
