Song of the Day – “Never Come Back Again”

If you’ve every been stuck in the car with me for a long trip, you probably know that when I find a song that strikes a chord with me, I listen to it a lot. My top 25 most played songs in iTunes have all been played more than 1,300 times. I need to absorb the song. I can listen to a song multiple times in a row, sometimes even 7 or 8 times. There are multiple reasons I’ll dive into a song. Sometimes it’s the sound that catches me. Sometimes it’s really great harmony. Other times it’s what the song says. Every now and then a song will get all three.

“Never Come Back Again” has all three, a great sound, good harmony, and a lyrics that made me stop and listen. The song definitely resonated with me. It is a song of adventure and love, a song that expresses the desire to experience the world…to touch, taste, see, hear, and smell. This is certainly something that most in my generation desire. They, I, we want to experience adventure, we want to see the diverse, and we want to experience the different. I don’t think this is limited to Millennials, but I do think it is stronger in this generation than it has been for a while (at least since the “Greatest Generation”).

The song says, “I wanna know what it feels like to never come back again.” I hope that Christians remember that we have a unique ability to experience true freedom. Real freedom is only found in Jesus Christ. While all you have to do to receive His freedom is believe, you have to live in faith to experience that freedom. Are you ready to pursue Christ? I’ll warn you, if you do, you will never come back again. Today will be different than yesterday and tomorrow different than today. It will be hard. There will be pain. There will be sacrifice. But the trade off is complete, genuine freedom. Are you ready to “never come back again?”
