First dates can certainly be memorable. I will never forget one particular first date. I picked her up after work, like 5:30ish, we set up a coffee date. I think I dropped her off after midnight. She found out about a very serious family situation right before our date and didn’t want to cancel, we walked for hours just talking. She cried and we talked and talked. It certainly wasn’t a traditional date, but it was good none-the-less. I learned a lot and I got to spend the next few months hanging out with an incredible and godly woman. When I hear the phrase, “walking together,” that date is what comes to mind.
God walks with us. We love, serve, and follow a God who is a friend, who “walks” with us. He does life with us, or at least he wants to. He wants to walk with us in the highs and lows of life. Tauren Wells’ “Hills & Valleys” has quickly become one of my favorite songs. It is such an amazing reminder! He sings:
On the mountains, I will bow my life to the one who set me there
In the valley, I will lift my eyes to the one who sees me there
I love the reminder that this part of the song gives us. When we’re on the mountains we need to remember to bow our lives to our Father, our God. When we’re struggling, when life gets hard we need to remember to lift our eye to our Savior. We’re not supposed to grind through this life on our own, we are supposed to walk with God. His grace is not just for a ticket to heaven, but to a real relationship with Him in the here and now.
I hope this week you will “walk with God” and whether you are on the mountain, in the valley, or somewhere in between, I hope you will be reminded that God loves you and wants to walk with you.
Well said! Life walking with Him has been one amazing journey! Keep on walking, fellow traveler!
